Launched in November 2005, the Water and Development Alliance (WADA) brings together the strengths of The Coca-Cola Company (TCCC) and the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID). This $28.1 million partnership is increasing access to water supply and sanitation services, protecting and improving watersheds and supporting productive uses of water. To date, over 500,000 people are expected to benefit from the Alliance’s impact in more than 20 countries around the globe.
WADA is a catalytic public-private partnership characterized by several core values: local ownership, institutional synergy, technical quality and transformational change. Each innovative program not only responds to local needs and priorities of the communities it partners with, but also directly supports both the strategic development priorities of USAID and the corporate citizenship objectives of TCCC. All WADA projects are designed to promote measurable, high impact approaches that will make a sustainable contribution to the world’s water problems. WADA has clearly demonstrated that when governments and companies create pioneering partnerships, the impact can be far greater than the sum of its parts.
